Revisiting the 90s and early aughts through Britney Spears’ memoir has reminded me of all the disturbing things we were taught as children of that era; about women, about sex, about thinness. A truly puritanical portrait of a culture that celebrated violence while shaming sex and self-expression. Not entirely unlike today, though much more staunch, repressed, and unconscious of itself.
